Application Manager - Hertfordshire - for a Leading Energy Company ,£60k - £75k base

In this role you will be working with the IT Service Manager and the Senior Leadership team, where you will be responsible for the development and delivery of the IT applications strategy and IT solutions, to ensure that the business is as effective and efficient as possible.

The primary focus of this position is to streamline the IT applications and processes across the business. You will oversee the maintenance and upgrades to support users internally and externally. The Application Manager will work alongside the wider IT Team and will engage with people at all levels throughout the organisation, working with 3rd party suppliers where necessary and ensuring that issues are dealt with in a swift manner.

You will demonstrate both emotional and personable intelligence, liaising with IT and business stakeholders to drive and influence the transformation of the applications estate with simplicity, optimisation and efficiency in mind.

The candidate will be a visionary in how they can lead and develop project roadmaps which will be a key aspect of the client's future growth plans.

Key projects

This individual will lead a team of Application Specialists and Analysts in the delivery of lots of new innovative and interesting projects, including the migration of applications across to AWS Cloud Infrastructure.

You must possess a strong technical application background in IT, a track record of leading application teams both in-house and with third party resources. You will be ready to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment alongside talented people who take pride in delivery of IT projects

Key accountabilities:
* To drive the Applications strategy and create a Road map for all our key IT Application Services. This will be used in no small part to facilitate our strategic move to the Cloud.
* Act as the escalation for all incidents across application stacks taking a leadership role as required.
* Establish a business engagement and governance model for the support, maintenance and enhancement of all Applications
* Lead and drive the wider IT Team to transform the application landscape working closely with other technology leads
* Drive application consolidation and reduction to simplify the business and reduce spend
* Drive application integration and efficiency to ensure systems are aligned, there is a single source of the truth and automation is at the heart of the applications stack
* Drive third party performance management and effectiveness through regular reviews
* Plan with the business for mandatory and discretionary project spend.
* Ensure benefits realisation responsibility is embedded in the application teams
* To be a key technical lead for applications in our big programmes of transformation including data & insight, cloud migrations and automation
* Drive cost optimisation and reduction to achieve lower operating costs for applications
* Act as the escalation for all incidents across application stacks taking a leadership role as required.

Key Responsibilities:
* Provide line management responsibilities to the application teams, with the focus on maximising their own performance towards the departmental team goals as well as fulfilling their potential.
* Drive the application strategy to realise simplicity, optimisation and performance
* Engage with senior stakeholders and influence technology decisions
* Oversee key skill transferal amongst the teams to ensure robust delivery processes.
* Enable team development by implementing the company performance management and appraisal system.
* Participate in the Weekly Change Board to ensure the Application team's interests both in support and projects form part of the decision making.
* Managing the recruitment cycle for the applications team
* Provide expertise to support ongoing departmental CSI.
* Monitoring and encouraging good interaction across all delivery teams.
* To devise and regularly take measures of success, including KPIs.
* Deliver accurate reporting and metrics to demonstrate the applications stack performance and improvements
* Keep aware of Service Management methodologies and principles.
Key Skills and Experience
* Proven experience in IT applications management
* Exceptional IT service management expertise
* Experience creating application strategies and successfully delivering business value through implementation and support
* Experience with developing application roadmaps for small and large/enterprise applications
* Strong Management Capabilities in Leadership, Communication, Team Development, Delegation and Organisation
* Proven experience successfully leading teams of application specialists
* Excellent leadership, team management and mentoring capabilities
* Strong influencing skills with senior stakeholders up to C level
* Proven supplier management experience and performance management
* Experience in business stakeholder management and influencing in a complex business environment
* Experience with applications in cloud infrastructure
* Strong awareness of SDLC and integration with key project and delivery teams
* Excellent communication and presentation skills up to C level
* Experience with enterprise software packages i.e. IBM Maximo, Oracle ERP, Fusion, AWS, Talend, SOA
* Proven planning ability for large projects
* Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* ITIL Service Management qualifications or experience.
